On Her 8th Birthday

The Santa Lucia tradition is based on a 3rd-century martyr who brought food to and gave all her money to the poor. In Sweden, she is a symbol of light amid the darkness. How appropriate that Claire was born on this day, as she has brought so much light into our lives. She is loyal and so, so kind. Also appropriate is the fact that her name means "bright." Happy birthday to our bright light, Claire, on her 8th birthday.

We were so lucky to have Adam's mom visit with us as a surprise for Claire's birthday.  She worked her magic and created beautiful garlands and swags from tree clippings and the holly tree in the back yard, just in time for Claire's birthday.  She also created the Santa Lucia crown for us.  She has a knack of making beautiful things for us whenever she comes to visit.
