We were so happy to have Glenda visit us back in May. We had a great time, and Claire absolutely loved having her grandma around. She even let Glenda do her hair (which she rarely lets me do anymore).

We love us some ice cream. And on one non-eventful Saturday afternoon, we decided to go get some ice cream. And by "get some ice cream" I mean we drove about 65 miles to Tillamook. It's a gorgeous drive, we get some great quality talking-time in, and then get to enjoy some yummy ice cream at the end.
Here's the skinny guy. Doesn't he look great? He deserved to eat his chocolaty, peanut buttery concoction.
Claire picked strawberry. Man, she is a sweetie.
And my favorite is Marionberry pie. I get it every time.
Henry came along too. He was feeling a little disappointed that he is still too young to have ice cream. Or maybe he was bothered by the too-large hat on his head. He wasn't really at liberty to say...
And of course we sat in the Loaf, pretended we were dairy cows and farmers, and ate some cheese.

Claire continues to amaze me - she is such a good big sister in so many ways. She is so ready to step in to help with Henry if I'm cooking dinner or have my hands full with something or are otherwise indisposed. She already displays actions that show what a natural she is at nurturing:
She is always there to give Henry encouragement as he works on his physical milestones.
She knows how important it is to practice to reach those milestones. (Yes, those are her baby dolls getting tummy time right alongside Henry.)
She understands the importance of quality time.
She knows that a well-timed song can ease sadness or simply bring on lots of smiles.
She shares quality ya-ya time with him, so he's already learning the value of a comfort item.
And she never underestimates the power of a good hug.

Claire loves the zoo. Though she has seen the animals a number of times, she still manages to have a sense of wonder about the things she sees. And because of this, I love to take her to the zoo. After a long hiatus due to Henry's arrival and the cold winter months, I thought I would surprise Claire with a zoo trip.
When we pulled into the zoo parking area, Claire said "we should go to the zoo tomorrow. Is that a good idea?" I told her that "Surprise! we are going to the zoo today!" I don't know if I've ever seen her face light up that much before.
I recently got a new camera. It's amazing what a faster shutter will do for you when trying to capture the fleeting smiles and glances of an ever-moving 3-year old. I took a lot of pictures of Claire at this trip, partially to practice with my new "toy", but also I feel that I need to make up for lost time and capture as many smiles this girl throws my way as I can (due to all the blurry and generally not-good pictures I've tried to take over the past few years).
Claire loved feeding the goats. She seriously had every goat standing next to that fence vying for her attention. She was feeding them grass. One blade at a time.
Proof that this girl needs a yard: She just let loose on the green space, twisting and twirling and even giving me a mini ballet recital. It was a joy just to watch her be her, when she thought no one was watching.
Here is the cheesy, posed grin. She rarely looks at the camera when I ask her to. At least I caught the smile.
She couldn't resist tickling the lion cub.
