Why such fanfare?
At the not-so-tender age - at least in "baby" years - of one year, five months, one week, one day, and six hours (give or take a few minutes), Claire is officially a walker.
The facts are these:
Claire has been a chicken-butt when it comes to walking and standing. She's been cruising for a while now, and has even been known to stand for a few minuscule seconds at a time, but she then trembles and cries in fear. And then falls forward, often so that we can catch her. It's a game, really. We've tried "tricking" her into walking, by letting go of her had mid-step to see if she will continue, and it has worked for maybe one step here or there. Well, just a few short minutes ago, that all changed. Adam was doing the fake-out trick, but she took a few steps. So he tried it again. She took a few more steps. And then I pulled out the camera and captured her third - yes, I said THIRD - attempt. Here it is:
You may or may not have noticed the giddiness in our voices (but I'll put my money on the fact that you DID notice the slightly embarrassing amount of excitement we expressed), but this has been a long time coming. We both knew she was capable, but as was the case with physical milestones in the past, Claire does things when she is good and ready - when she decides that she wants to - and no matter the prodding, encouraging, or attempts at teaching on our parts, Claire is the one who holds the cards. And today, the stars aligned for her, and this became the day that she decided she wanted to walk. But it wasn't merely the fact that she took seven whole steps on her third attempt at walking that was so exciting. In the video, you saw her bend over, pick up her lovie (she calls it her "ya-ya"), and stand back up without holding on to anything. Well, that was also a first. Two major physical milestones in one shot. So we were pretty happy. Joy to the world!
